Patient Companion

“It’s been great having Mike in my life, said James. “He taught me more than how to improve my chess game. He helped me see the value of slowing down and planning my next move – rather than acting impulsively.”

Patient care volunteers provide companionship and emotional support to a hospice family in a variety of ways:

  • Caregiver relief
  • Social visits
  • Running errands
  • Light housekeeping
  • Dog walking

Patient Companions will receive comprehensive training as well as dedicated support from The Elizabeth Hospice’s volunteer coordinators.

Flexible hours are built around our hospice patients’ needs. A typical weekly volunteer visit is 4 hours or less.

Hospice volunteer opportunities are available in your community. We serve patients in their home or residence throughout San Diego County and Southwest Riverside County.

Volunteers often tell us that they get more than they give when volunteering in hospice care. While you will be helping others, there are benefits for you, too. These include: meeting new people, learning new skills, connecting with others who share your interests, and supporting your community.
