Caring for Our Veterans

The demands of military life can take their toll on a person’s physical, emotional and spiritual health. Some veterans who have coped well throughout their life may experience distressing memories and emotions during their end-of-life journey.

Our veteran hospice care teams help ensure that those who have defended our freedoms are aware of their healthcare options, feel appreciated, and receive the medical support and attention they need and deserve. Our veteran hospice caregivers have specialized training that enables them to address post traumatic stress, depression, anxiety, survivor’s guilt, and soul injury.

We Honor Veterans

The We Honor Veterans program focuses on respectful inquiry, compassionate listening and grateful acknowledgment. The Elizabeth Hospice is proud to be recognized by the Department of Veterans Affairs and the National Hospice and Palliative Care Organization as a We Honor Veterans Level 5 Partner, the highest level of distinction.

Veteran Pinnings

Pinning ceremonies are officiated by a veteran or active duty service member. At these intimate ceremonies which are conducted at the bedside, the veteran honors the patient’s military service. These events bring together family and friends to celebrate what is often the last time these individuals are publicly thanked for their service.

Complementary Therapies

As a part of our veteran hospice care services, we offer a variety of free therapies to provide pain relief to veterans. These include: physical therapy, music therapy, aromatherapy, Reiki, and pet visits.

Veteran to Veteran

This program pairs a veteran volunteer who is a veteran with a hospice patient who also served in the United States Armed Forces. During one-on-one visits, stories are shared about military life – both accomplishments and challenges. It is through this camaraderie, that emotional healing is facilitated.
