Center for Compassionate Care

We support people of all ages through serious illness and grief to find and regain hope.

The Center for Compassionate Care has been created to centralize programs and services offered to children, families and individuals coping with the diagnosis of a serious illness, or adjusting to the death of a loved one of any age.

Drop-In Support Groups
Our Bereavement Specialists are dedicated to helping those who are grieving while adjusting to the death of a loved one. Below is a list of our regularly scheduled Drop-in Support Groups for anyone who has experienced a loss. Groups are held at The Center for Compassionate Care of The Elizabeth Hospice at the locations listed below. All Are Welcome! Escondido Evening (Pet Loss Support Group)

Thursday, September 22nd and Thursday, November 17th, 6:30 P.M. – 8:00 P.M.

The Elizabeth Hospice and San Diego Humane Society are partnering to offer a Pet Loss Support Group – an environment where thoughts and emotions can be shared with others who have experienced a similar loss. Sessions are designed for adults and children over 10 who have experienced the death of a pet including those considering or preparing for euthanasia.

Lullabies Lost Support Group
This group provides support to families who have experienced the loss of a baby due to miscarriage, stillbirth, infant death or S.I.D.S. 2nd and 4th Tuesday of every month, 6:30 P.M. – 8:30 P.M. Specialized Support Groups
We provide Topic-Specific Support Groups, led by qualified professionals. These eight week Support Groups specifically address the uniqueness of various losses. There is a minimal fee to attend these educational Support Groups; however no one will be excluded due to inability to pay. — These groups are held based on an interest list.
  • Child Loss (for adults who have lost a child of any age)
  • Mother Loss (for anyone who has experienced the loss of their mother)
  • Parent Loss (for adults impacted by the death of a parent)
  • Spousal Loss (for adults impacted by the death of a spouse)
  • Grief Conversations for Men (for men who have experienced the loss of a loved one)
  • Writing Through the Grief Journey (This four-week group provides opportunities to find clarity and meaning through creative writing)

On-Campus Student Grief Support Groups

Caregiver Support Groups
  For caregivers of persons with Alzheimer’s disease or related dementia, who are either living at home or have been placed outside the home. Participation is free.
It’s a place to:
  • Exchange practical information on caregiving problems and possible solutions
  • Talk through challenges and ways of coping
  • Share feelings, needs and concerns
  • Learn about resources available in your community
