The Elizabeth Hospice is fortunate to have an extraordinary clinical team dedicated to providing medical, emotional and spiritual support to children and adults facing the challenges associated with a life-limiting illness.
Betty Olaya and Susan Nardi are two of the incredible and compassionate Elizabeth Hospice caregivers that provide comfort, education, and guidance to those nearing the end of their life’s journey.
Betty Olaya, RN Case Manager, joined The Elizabeth Hospice more than 22 years ago when she was looking for an opportunity to make a difference in people’s lives.
“Being a hospice nurse has changed me forever,” said Betty. “It’s made me more grounded, more vulnerable, more compassionate. I love meeting people from all walks of life and hearing about their life experiences. And it’s incredibly fulfilling when family members tell me that they feel confident as their loved one’s caregiver because of the things I’ve taught them.”
Susan Nardi, RN Case Manager, took a position as a hospice nurse after working in various specialties. She fell in love with the job and has been in the field ever since.
“Nursing was in my blood,” said Nardi. “My mother and grandmother were nurses, and I grew up watching them care for others. I educate my patients and families about the disease process and the dying process and explain that our team will make them comfortable so they can enjoy the time they have left. It’s an honor to be welcomed into the patient’s home and family during this extremely sensitive time.”
Since 1978, the organization has touched the lives of more than 115,000 people in San Diego County and Southwest Riverside County.
