The Rob Benzon Dan Ferbal Foundation has generously donated $64,870 to support Camp Spero, a bereavement camp for children and teens. The foundation’s decade-long commitment has allowed Camp Spero to support over 1,100 children to find hope during their grieving process.
“The generous donations from the Rob Benzon Dan Ferbal Foundation provides our campers with a supportive teddy bear that provides physical comfort during a weekend that can be emotionally challenging for some children,” said Bianca Gregori, The Elizabeth Hospice Children’s Bereavement Program Manager. “When speaking with alumni campers, they reference their excitement to know that sitting on their bunk bed when they arrive at camp will be a soft teddy bear for them to hold and take home. One camper referenced their desire to bring their bears to college with them in the Fall. These bears provide comfort and a token for campers to remember their time at Camp Spero. For this we are extremely grateful.”
Based on the Latin phrase, Dum Spiro Spero, “While I breathe, I hope,” Camp Spero campers honor and memorialize their loved ones while making friends with others who are facing similar circumstances. This summer weekend experience helps children increase their feelings of hopefulness, enhance their self-esteem, and learn they are not alone. Hosted by The Elizabeth Hospice, this grief camp is offered free of charge and all grieving children, ages 7 to 17, in the community are welcome.
